In this
video Australian specialist backs coach Barry Honan teaches the most basic
of all Rugby skills - the lateral pass.
He argues that any attempt to develop a 15 man game without highly developed
passing and handling skills is impossible.
As a physics graduate with a particular interest in mechanics, Barry presents
clear reasons for teaching every aspect of the lateral passing technique.
“It doesn’t matter how you pass as long as you find the
target”
“How many times have I heard this and shuddered? If a player with
poor technique can achieve 90% success with his or her pass, then even
I would hesitate to change things. However, this is rarely the case.
“The point is that an occasional poorly executed pass may very well
find its target, but the aim is to have players understand and develop
passing skills that will ensure a high percentage of passes achieve the
desired result.”
In this video, Barry works with an under 15 rugby squad from Kelvin Grove
High School in Brisbane. Most of the players were relative new to the
game and the lateral passing methods employed by many of them, as shown
in the introduction to the video, were varied and often technically flawed.
Barry shows how to correct those flaws and get your handling up to speed.
